False Noses, Hats, Crimped and Braided Hair
In honour of Halloween some of us at choir got dressed up for the evening. Don’t we all look scarily gorgeous?
Wore more eye make up I have for years ( green eyebrows too!) Just for fun. I went to choir on the tube all dressed up and no-one batted an eyelid. LTH went on the tube with her full witches nose and hat and no-one gave her a second look, no-one stared or tittered, we are educated in London not to stare, or even do eye contact on the underground as, with 8 million people living and using the tube, plus all the tourists, you do have to be on your guard against very angry mad people…as the chances are just higher, as there are so many of us. But staring is fun, smiling at people is good too..as long as you know exactly when to avert your eyes…ha ha
I loved having braided and crimped hair. Braids are a bit magical and not just for children. As a straight haired girl whose curls go flat in about an hour I always wanted curly hair too, tried a couple of perms in the past, late 70’s perm and very unfashionable early 90’s spiral perm, which broke half my hair off – have sworn I would never do it again. We always want what we can’t have. Now I am having to learn to get used to the ever increasing silver hair ( at the moment it is, as my dad used to describe his own hair, it is dandy grey, russet , a cacophony of colour, some real , some painted in, it would be better if it was all silver). I am also getting use to a new shaped face (moving south). A girl friend of mine who has just turned 60 has a mirror on her desk so she can look at herself a lot to get used to her new old face, and learn to love it. I am still having that thing where I get shocked when I see photos of myself taken now, as my face had changed so much in the last 4 years, I delete more photos as I think it ‘is not me’. Skin changes, especially as women lose their what ever it is, oestrogen(?), and light is not so kind to older skin. If I could have anything back from my younger days it would be my skin….ah well.
SONG OF THE DAY- BRAIDED HAIR -1 Giant Leap
I have posted this before..but it is such a great song and great video and reminds me about being true to your hair, and youself.
then something wierd…I would love to work with 1 Giant Leap and there is Ben Cole -film maker, who travelled round the world with them who I was for a while, very close to at college, years and years ago…have not seen him since…funny coincidence.
