Emma Kirkby in 2007 singing Dido’s lament by Purcell. If I was ever to sing something less contemporary this would be it, but I don’t have the chops for it. Lots of training needed to sing it well. Emma Kirkby is still singing beautifully and has for me been the only person who sings this with the feel I want to hear. I am sure there are more young singers now who have the same sort of style. I hate hearing this particular aria sung with a great big plummy vibrato….just does not sit well for me. One day maybe I shall give it a go. In the mean time. Here is the real thing.

Ooh, up until now I only knew one Dido, and it isn’t this one, but this gave me the chills all the way through. Great pick!
