Over the world there will be lots of events, walks and candle lit to remember those who have been killed.
This day gives me an opportunity to stand side by side, and show my total support to my transgender brothers and sisters. I find the hatred that I see from people who fear non-conformity particularly sexual, to be very scary. As a hetrosexual woman, or maybe I am a gay man in a woman’s body, or perhaps I am a lesbian and Mr P. is a gay woman in a man’s body…who knows, I am standing side by side and defending and celebrating all people who feel passionately they were born in the wrong body and need to change, and then need to be recognised and accepted in their change.
SONG OF THE DAY – I Will Survive -from Priscilla Queen of the Desert sung by Gloria Gaynor
One of my favourite movies and the aboriginal chanting and digereedoo playing at the end of the track is soooo cool. Many comments on the youtube video (some a bit on the course side) but interesting that people pick up the support of this moment of the film between two communities who had suffered hatred and oppression, the feeling of this song being sung to aboriginals by a gay man, a drag queen and a trans is very poignant, and funny too. The fact they are supporting each other is a lovely moment in the film.
