Last night I had my first ever guitar lesson…like they say, better late than never!

I learned how to read tab ( which for some reason I have to say in a broad Northumbrian accent)..weyay Ah Can reeed Tab!

that simple

It is so simple and was explained to me by my fabulous teacher in about 5 seconds…so I shall explain it to you. You have your six horizontal lines, just the same as the staves on a piece of manuscript paper. Each line represents one of the six guitar strings, the bottom line is the lowest string and onwards, and upwards. The number on the line tells you what fret you are pressing and the number below the stave is the finger you are using to press it down. Brilliant! Then you either get the notation above so you can see the rhythm , or you can add rhythm to the tabs….like so… the bit below is all played on the bottom string using frets open , 2 and 3….which sound something like this.

All I have to do now is practice like hours every day  because my muscle memory like my short term memory is an  exceedingly hard nut  to crack.

SONG OF THE DAY -Angelo Badalamenti- Twin Peaks Theme

Less is more is the moral of the tale for this piece of music which must repeat the first riff  enough times that is just  bores ( in possibly using both meanings of the word) a hole in your head.

Yesterday with Mr P.

Fishing is something I do not think I will ever be able to do, or should I say be, because I find that sitting still business really hard.  Mr P. goes fishing with Jane and they sitting totally still for hours at a time..not my idea of a good time. This is when I realise the difference between Mr P. and myself. He is  more of a a  blissful be-er ( not the stuff you drink ) and I am  more of  a  divine doer. He has always been able to be still, where as I seem to be happily spinning plates most of the time -I bet that is bad grammar!

The carp is getting ready for its closeup

One day I would like to be a blissful be-er, but right this minute I  have far too many exciting things to do to be sitting next to a pond in the cold October glow.. ha ha ha.

Oh and in case you were worried, they do not eat the fish, they go back into the pond once they have had their close up! They are also a bit bony for my liking. A bit of a Christmas delicacy in  parts of Eastern Europe, where they buy them and keep them alive in their baths until Christmas Eve when they are fried in some sort of batter. I did partake in the Czech Republic one Christmas Eve in 1999 when we had a hair brained idea that spending Christmas on a cut priced coach holiday to Prague and the Czech Republic with a load of serious beer drinkers  would be fun…ha ha ha . It was not. We spent the whole holiday trying to avoid all the other people in the party who were usually  beating each other up in  drunken late night events organised by the coach tour – deep joy for 2 teetotallers. Carp are really boney, there must be an art to eating it, unless they just gave us the tiddlers as they thought we would not know any better……..

SONG OF THE DAY – Brooklyn ( owes the charmer under me)

It has been a long time since I posted the first musical love of my life…Steely Dan, introduced to me by Don Kentish….where are you now?

It’s National Handwashing Day. Yup there is a day for everything. Today we are reminded on the importance of regular handwashing, especially at this time of year, if you are working with kids, keyboards or the general publique. I have a dear friend who methodically wipes down every piano and keyboard he comes in contact with  and I can see why. Now I heard to do really effective hand washing you had to sing the whole of ‘Happy Birthday ( inside voice please) To You’, for the process to be effective. I have to say I am getting a bit more obsessive about hand washing in my old age. If I have been on the tube I usually remember to wash my hands as soon as I come in bla bla.

So in celebration of this marvellous day I am off to get a bit of a lather going. Good Clean Fun!

SONG OF THE DAY  – Apparat – Black Water

A bit of Elecronic music from Berlin today…I asked Mr P. for a recommendation as he is the ‘forward ‘ music man of the house. This is the sort of stuff he is listening to. A bit of info about Apparat.
