Shadows

A “Daily Post” suggestion as a title. So I am finding some recently taken photographs that have shadows, and a song with the first word is ‘shadows’. ha ha! Recently the updated version of Apple’s iphotos has a new EDIT button called ‘shadows’-which is amazing, when you move the curser up and all the shadows in your photos disappear and suddenly there is an image where no image was before! It works particularly well if you have taken picture at dusk or at night, but is a little unsatisfying too, as you know the shadows where there and the taking away of them is some sort of illusion.

I do like shadows in pictures, this  tree was my favourite picture I took in Hampstead Heath last weekend, and the light and shade is beautiful. It is the same in all aspects of the universe. Just like the space is so important in music, art, speech, so is the light and shade is what makes life precious.

INTO THE LIGHT

All our emotions consist of light and shade and  you can’t appreciate the light without the dark…blah blah blah – too much of one or the other can lead you into a place of unbalance. Can you have too much light?  I often think that when we die we will go to a place where it is just white light all the time…that thing about going towards the light, so we should try not to be be afraid of death, as it will  mean no more pain, no more shadows. Life is about the glimpses of the light, continually stepping from the shadows into the light, and  we have the continuation of the roller coaster from one to another, just like the seasons continually changing, we change, life changes, and  we all have to deal with a fair few shadows, whether they be internal or external, it is what make our lives richer. We should never be too afraid to go into the dark places as it just makes the light so much brighter when we step back into it.

SONG OF THE DAY popped into my head as I sang it last month at our acoustic evening we do on the first Monday of every month, upstairs of a local pub ( it’s tonight). I am a recent singing and playing the guitar at the same time, and thank you Mickey is there playing properly, because last month I almost mimed the guitar as I just forgot every chord as soon as we stood up in front of our small but perfectly formed audience. This month I have practised more and hope to actually play and sing at the same time! So the track starts with the line ‘shadows grow so long before my eyes, and there moving, cross the page’ boom boom! and now I have changed my mind as I am actually bored of the song so I need another song of the day that is a bit more up beat and cheerful for a monday morning. SOoooooooo let me think…something really cheerful so we can have a dance round the kitchen again….. Ok it’s  Finally by Ce Ce Penistone..….
